Microfluidic chip holder 45x15

As one of the important steps in microfluidic is the interfaces to macro world, microLIQUID created a set of standard chip holders.

Characteristics of the chip holder

The main characteristics of this chip holder are:

  • It can accommodate chips of 45mm by 15mm size.
  • Reusable, it's possible to change the chip.
  • Bonded with screws, no wire or glue bonding.
  • Available with or without electrical contacts.
  • Fluidic connections are made by means of o-rings to the chip and luerlock or micro wells to the outside world.
  • The electrical contacts are made with spring loaded pins to the chip and PCB(Printed Circuit Board) to the outside world.
  • One step, close the package and it's automatic connected and sealed.
  • The 45x15 package includes four holes in order to fix it in a bench, using screws.
  • Top and down observation windows provided.
  • Different housing depths are available for different chip thickness.
  • The packages are divided into two parts, the chip holder and the cover. The chip holder (bottom part), has a housing to accommodate the chip in a fixed position, whereas the cover (top part) carries the fluidic and electric connections. Therefore, both fluidic and electric connections must be on the same chip side.

Chip holder configurations

Chip holder configurations for chips smaller than 45x15mm are shown bellow.

Reference Chip Size Fluidic Connections Electric Connections
4515 45x15mm Up to 4 luerlock NO
4515PCB 45x15mm Up to 4 luerlock Up to 4
4515W 45x15mm Up to 2 luerlock NO
Up to 2 wells

Up to 2 wells

Chip holder design

  • The electrical pads, represented by the yellow circles, are metallized areas on the chip.
  • The cover’s spring loaded pins touch these pads to provide electrical contact.
  • The small red circles indicate the fluidic connection points.
  • The grey circles indicate the o-ring external diameters. The chip’s surface inside the grey circles must be flat, to provide a good foundation for the oring, in order to guarantee good sealing.
  • The blue line represents the observation window’s outline.

Microfluidics

Experts in microfluidics

microLIQUID is specialized in development of microfluidic products and services in polymers. We use several techniques and materials for the fabrication of microfluidic structures in prototypes and serial production.

Prototyping

Microfluidic chip prototyping services.

We fabricate microfluidic structures according to your specific requirements, with no minimum quantities required. We can use different methods of fabrication (hot embossing, etching, ...) and materials (plastics, glass, ...).

Customized chip holders

Customized microfluidic chip holders: closed with hinge, teflon and PCR.

We do not only develop custom microfluidic chips but it also custom connectors. Therefore we have developed a range of solutions for connecting the channels, chambers, heaters and sensors to pumps, ...
