Microfluidic chip holder 45x15
|
As one of the important steps in microfluidic is the interfaces to macro world,
microLIQUID created a set of standard chip holders.
Characteristics of the chip holder
The main characteristics of this chip holder are:
- It can accommodate chips of 45mm by 15mm size.
- Reusable, it's possible to change the chip.
- Bonded with screws, no wire or glue bonding.
- Available with or without electrical contacts.
- Fluidic connections are made by means of o-rings to the chip and luerlock or micro wells to the outside world.
- The electrical contacts are made with spring loaded pins to the chip and PCB(Printed Circuit Board) to the outside world.
- One step, close the package and it's automatic connected and sealed.
- The 45x15 package includes four holes in order to fix it in a bench, using screws.
- Top and down observation windows provided.
- Different housing depths are available for different chip thickness.
- The packages are divided into two parts, the chip holder and the cover. The chip holder (bottom part), has a housing to accommodate the chip in a fixed position, whereas the cover (top part) carries the fluidic and electric connections. Therefore, both fluidic and electric connections must be on the same chip side.

Chip holder design
- The electrical pads, represented by the yellow circles, are metallized areas on the chip.
- The cover’s spring loaded pins touch these pads to provide electrical contact.
- The small red circles indicate the fluidic connection points.
- The grey circles indicate the o-ring external diameters. The chip’s surface inside the grey circles must be flat, to provide a good foundation for the oring, in order to guarantee good sealing.
- The blue line represents the observation window’s outline.
